Media men try their luck in barangay election
BY BOY RYAN B. ZABAL

KALIBO, AKLAN – Out to prove their knack for public service aside from their regular newsroom and field reporting works in local radio stations, media men here are joining the political derby come October 25.
Three radio broadcasters from RGMA DyRU Super Radyo Kalibo are all vying for barangay kagawad positions up for grabs in their respective barangays in the town of Kalibo.
Conrado “Kaibahang Conrad” Indelible is a reelectionist kagawad in Barangay Andagao, one of the biggest barangays in the capital town of Kalibo. Senior field reporter Michael “Kaibahang Michael” Selorio is running in Barangay Linabuan Norte and Letlet “Princess Lysa” Barrios-Rapio in Barangay Tigayon, both for barangay kagawad posts.

DyIN Bombo Radyo Kalibo anchorman Arnel “Bombo Arnel” Vicente is all set for his first try in local politics for kagawad in Barangay Polo in Banga, Aklan. Field reporter Amphil “Bombo Amphil” Tamboong, a former Sangguniang Kabataan chairman in Barangay Isidro in Ibajay, Aklan, is also running for barangay captain in the upcoming polls.

Anchorman Jujet “Katribung Jujet” Reyes of DyYM Community Broadcasting Information System (CBIS), a local government operated radio station, is ready to slug out in Barangay Poblacion in Kalibo, Aklan for kagawad.
Station manager Jerome “Kasamang Jerome” Vega of RMN DyKR Kalibo is seeking reelection as punong barangay in Barangay Camanci Sur, Numancia, Aklan.
The seven ‘hopefuls’ are optimistic of their election victories to follow the success stories of three media practitioners elected as Sangguniang Bayan members last May 10, 2010 local election, namely, former DyIN Bombo Radyo anchorman Jonathan Cabrera and DyIN Bombo Radyo reporter Jupiter Gallenero in the town of Malay and former senior field reporter Mark Sy of RGMA DyRU in Kalibo.
