Aklan SP dad urges mandatory singing of Aklan Hymn
BY BOY RYAN B. ZABAL

KALIBO, Aklan - A public hearing is scheduled on October 18 to tackle the proposed ordinance on the mandatory singing of the official Provincial Hymn "Among Akean."
Sangguniang Panlalawigan member Victor Manuel Garcia said the Aklan Hymn should be played and sung within the province of Aklan in local and national government offices, schools at all levels and private institutions and organizations in all flag-raising ceremonies, official and formal functions.
Garcia has proposed an ordinance in the provincial board of Aklan for the mandatory singing of Aklan Hymn as a patriotic homage of Aklanons to the home province. The singing of Aklan Hymn is also seen to promote the rich traditions and cultures of the province.
Earlier, the provincial government adopted the Aklan March (Hala Bira Akean) and Aklan Hymn composed by Dr. Jesse Macavinta Gomez in time for the hosting of the province of Aklan of the Western Visayas Regional Athletic Association Meet (WVRAAM) last March 2010.
The popular hymn was actually sung for the first time during the Search for Mr. and Ms. WVRAAM, one of the highlights of the annual regional athletic event, at the Gov. Augusto B. Legaspi Memorial Sports Complex here.
Aklan Hymn, also arranged by Gomez, won the Aklan Provincial hymn writing contest of the Department of Education and the provincial government. Gomez, a native of Numancia, Aklan, is the Division Schools Superintendent of Roxas City, Capiz.
