PhilWater 2010 to gather Asia-Pacific officials on water safety & security

BORACAY - The Philippine Water Works Association (PWWA), the country’s umbrella national organization for firms and institutions involved in water supply, will hold the 18th annual International Conference and Exhibition on Water Resource Management at the Boracay Regency Beach Resort and Convention Center in Malay, Aklan, on October 13 to 15, 2010.
Known as PhilWater 2010, the event, of which the Ayala-led Manila Water Company (MWC) is a co-sponsor, will have for its theme “Focusing on Sustainable Environmental Solutions on Water Safety and Security.”
PWWA President Proceso T. Domingo said the event is the largest gathering of officials and executives, policy-makers, consultants, contractors, technical experts, and other professionals involved in water supply development, management, and operation in the Asia-Pacific region which the Philippines annually hosts since 1992 as part of its global commitments to the effective and sustainable management of water resources.
Domingo said local and foreign experts have been invited to present papers on topics such as good governance for improved customer service and satisfaction; sustainable water solutions for continuous supply and availability; water safety plan implementation for ensuring public health and safety, water system efficiency and effectiveness for conservation of resources, securing water resources and supply, application of nano technology in the water industry, water reuse, and reclamation; asset management, surface water, bulk water supply and treatment, and the role of the academe in water safety and security.
There will also be environmental-related topics such as water industry approaches for adapting to climate change, risk assessment, strategies to minimize surface water run-off pollution in urban areas, advanced technology for water and wastewater treatment, and the socio-economic impact of climate change.
Domingo said PWWA expects the forthcoming event to equal if not surpass the results of last year’s PhilWater held in Tagbiliran City, Bohol.
Eight other firms have confirmed their sponsorship of the event. namely, Local Water Utilities Administration (LWUA), Maynilad Water Services, Inc., JV Angeles Construction; Trisjan Corp., Zacchi Marketing, and the water districts of DasmariƱas (Cavite), Tuguegarao Metro, and Angeles City.
PWWA Vice President Antonio Magtibay said firms that have already confirmed their participation in the international products and technology exhibits during PhilWater 2010 include Aqua Treatment Technology, Australian Trade Commission, AVK Phils., Bentley Systems, Crystalla Enterprises, Danfos, Digital Data, Ebara Benguet, E.C.
