BORACAY – President Benigno ‘Noynoy’ Simeon Aquino III leads the 35th Annual District Convention well-wishers and enjoined “the Kiwanis International Philippine South District for its unwavering commitment to serve the people for a better Philippines.”
“We trust that you will continue to play your role as modern-day heroes; defending our people from the scourge of poverty, illiteracy and marginalization. We are glad to have you with us as we work to fulfill our Social Contract with the Filipino people,” the Chief Executive said.
The annual convention is slated from September 9 to 11 at the famed La Carmela de Boracay Beach Hotel under the theme “Make Time to Make a Difference.”
More than 300 Kiwanians from Visayas and Mindanao will attend the Boracay convention hosted by the Kiwanis Clubs of Kalibo, Boracay, Jewels and Kalibo Ati-Atihan, all in the province of Aklan/
President Aquino said, “we are now in a new season of hope; for a society of progress and equality, and for a future wherein every Filipino has the chance to earn and enjoy the benefits of his hard work. These will all be realized; the sacrifices and reforms we sow now will one day bear fruit.”
Aklan Rep. Florencio Miraflores shares the Noynoy’s concern saying, “the convention is a fitting contribution to the new administration’s vow to right the wrongs of the past and start anew in rebuilding the nation.”
“And because we have so much to do to make our country strong and dynamic again, your organization’s efforts will do much to make the necessary difference. With your track record in undertaking socio-civic programs and projects, I am confident that the communities where you will be undertaking your continuing efforts will be better places to live in,” he added.
For his part, Aklan Governor Carlito Marquez lauded the Kiwanians for the effective implementation of projects and programs that cater to children’s welfare – medical and dental mission, feeding programs, health and education.
“Let this occasion be thanksgiving day to past and present members of the organization, living and dead, who all gave their heart and soul to an organization that never stops to “make time to make a difference”.
Meanwhile, Aklan Vice Governor Gabrielle Calizo-Quimpo hailed the Kiwanis International for choosing the island of Boracay as convention venue that emphasized the lofty stature of the island in the national and international tourism industry.
“Your convention, for sure, will not only focus on issues of children’s welfare but the participants as well will be playing the role of effective ambassadors of goodwill who will depict our province and people as gracious hosts to tourists all over the world.”
Calizo said, “no doubt, children are our wealth and ensuring and safeguarding their future and posterity is a task of utmost and topmost priority. After all, what we live and work for this world is all for the sake of our children.”
