China travel pub cites Boracay, Cebu as best travel destinations

BORACAY - To recognize the best enterprises in China's travel, meeting and incentive industry, the island of Boracay was cited as the Best Travel and Leisure Destination (short haul) by the TravelWeekly China in its online voting competition.
In a website report of the Department of Foreign Affairs, the China Travel and Meetings Industry Awards organized by the leading travel industry trade publication in China, both awarded the famed Boracay Island and Cebu in a ceremony held in Beijing, China last week.
The nominees were chosen by a panel of judges composed of travel and tourism industry executives and professionals. They were posted online since June 2010 and 800,000 netizens from the Chinese tourism and meetings industry voted, said Tourism Undersecretary Vicente Romano III.
Other winners were : Best Leisure Destination (Li jiang, China), Best Travel & Leisure Destination (long haul) - United Kingdom, Best Ecological Destination (Norway) and Best Resort Destination (Gold Coast, Australia).
Boracay, off mainland Malay in the province of Aklan, registered more than 500,000 tourists in the first eight months this year, the data of the Department of Tourism showed.
