KALIBO, Aklan – The sole electric power distributor in the province holds its 27th Annual General Membership Assembly on August 28 in the town of Lezo.
Aklan Electric Cooperative (Akelco), recipient of Administrator’s Award for the Visayas in the 2010 Lumens Award of the National Electrification Administration (NEA), banners the theme “Sustainability in the Face of Electric Cooperative Enormous Challenges” in the general assembly of its more than 94,000 member consumers.
Expected to grace the assembly’s opening ceremonies at Akelco’s Engr. Job Y. Besana Hall are Aklan Governor Carlito Marquez, Aklan Rep. Florencio Miraflores and Aklan Vice Governor Gabrielle Calizo-Quimpo while Akelco general manager Chito Peralta will also present his report in the assembly.
Akelco is categorized by NEA as A+ with a system loss of 10.44 percent. To ensure adequate supply of electric power in the province of Aklan, the electric cooperative signed a 10-year power supply agreement with the Green Core Geothermal, Inc.
The electric cooperative is servicing 385 barangays of the 17 towns of Aklan, including Boracay Island and two municipalities of Antique.
