TIEZA to build trauma hospital in Boracay
BY BOY RYAN B. ZABAL

BORACAY - The Philippine Tourism Authority (PTA), now called the Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority (TIEZA), will soon building a well-equipped hospital in the island of Boracay early next year.
According to Eminent Persons Group Director Rey Dela Rosa, the lack of a staffed and well-equipped hospital in the island resulted to death of patients from trauma injuries and cardio-vascular diseases while on their way to the capital town of Kalibo for medical treatment.
He also cited that infrastructures such as sewerage system and road networks became inadequate due to rising population and aggravated by the uncontrolled number of land vehicles in the island.
Dela Rosa said the TIEZA hospital is located in the 12,000-square meter property on Mount Luho owned by the government and currently occupied by the Boracay Island Water Company (BIWC). The hospital project will have a first-class trauma center and a decompression chamber and staffed by medical specialists.
TIEZA chief operating officer Mark Lapid is amenable to the proposal of EPG-SS Director Jane Rossignol and beach resort owner Steve Tajanlangit to build a trauma receiving center, which could start construction in the first quarter of next year once the BIWC vacates the property in December this year.
Dela Rosa said the EPG together with Island Composite Enforcers (ICE) also plan to open a Second Point of Entry at the beach area between Club Panoly and Shangri-la, however, the Old Panoly Road connecting the area to the main highway of the island should be re-open first.
"TIEZA can allocate budget to assist in the construction of pontoon pier at the proposed Second Point of Entry for the residents and visitors of upscale hotels in the northern area of Boracay. This is could be implemented in the first quarter of next year with the cooperation of national government, the local government unit and the private sector," he said.
Dela Rosa said the Club Panoly Resort also volunteered to build a coastal police outpost to secure all approaches in the area, especially the proposed Second Point of Entry.

  1. I hope this hospital will materialize and the government will solve the sewage problem in Boracay. The island has been ravaged and damage by this modernization of the island. I say, limit the number of people that can go to the island so that it will not be too crowded and help reduce sewage problems there.
