KALIBO, Aklan – Vice Governor Gabrielle Calizo-Quimpo is the new national treasurer of the League of Vice Governors of the Philippines during its national assembly on July 22 to 24 in Pasay City.
Calizo, in her second term as vice governor of Aklan, was first elected as regional director for Western Visayas of the League of Vice Governors of the Philippines in 2007 and was instrumental in the passage of priority legislations such as the Aklan Investment and Incentives Code, Aklan Children’s Code, Aklan Tourism Code and the Environment Code of Aklan.
“I accepted the nomination and the support for my candidacy is overwhelming. We have an executive committee meeting here to discuss the thrusts of the League for the next three years, among others, to prioritize the training of legislators, especially in the legislative works of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan members and to actively network with other leagues and coordinate with the national government agencies for relevant projects for the constituents,” she said.
Calizo said the league also discussed with the new Interior and Local Government secretary Jesse Robredo, former mayor of Naga City, on how to work closely with his department.
“What I could do in the national level to benefit the Aklan legislative council, I will do it. It is better I am here in the League of Vice Governors as one of the national officers, we could actively involved in policy making,” she added.
In the 2nd special session of Aklan Sangguniang Panlalawigan on Monday, a resolution sponsored by board member Rodson Mayor was passed commending the regular presiding officer after she was elected as national treasurer of the League of Vice Governors.
Secretary to the Sanggunian Odon Bandiola said the vice governor is an advocate of executive-legislative cooperation and cohesion, putting more focus in the crafting of the Code of General Ordinances of Aklan, codified revenue and tax measures of the provincial government and a recognized stalwart of the tourism industry for her active promotion of tourism destinations through her tourism-related firms.
