KALIBO, Aklan – Police Regional Office (PRO)-6 Chief Supt. Samuel Pagdilao, Jr. has announced what he describes as a major breakthrough in the investigation of Lezo councilor Fernando Baldomero murder case.
The 35-year old suspect Dindo Lovon Ancero, of Malingin, Bogo City, Cebu was positively identified by the witnesses after the task force Baldomero presented to them the photographs of the possible suspects.
“The special investigating task group (Task Force Baldomero) headed by Aklan provincial director Senior Supt. Epifanio Bragais, Jr. had identified the assailant of Baldomero. Through photographs that were presented to three vital witnesses, the gunman was positively identified, first, by the 12-year old youngest son of Baldomero, who was very close when the incident happened. Unmistakably, there was a clear view of the assailant and there were other witnesses who corroborated the testimony of victim’s son,” said Pagdilao during a press conference on Friday afternoon at Camp Pastor Martelino in Barangay New Buswang.
Pagdilao said the police investigation will go on despite the identification of Ancero. It is obvious from their initial investigation that the police could not establish the personal motives of the gunman to kill Baldomero.
“The suspect is unknown to Baldomero and we have not unearthed any relation where the suspect would harbor any personal grudge against Baldomero. Our investigation will continue to find out what could have motivated the suspect who is living far away in Cebu to have committed this crime,” Pagdilao stressed.
Baldomero, 61, was killed by motorcycle-riding suspects at about 6:30 a.m. of July 5 in front of his rented house in Barangay Estancia, this town, while preparing to bring his son Carl Philip to school.
Baldomero was pronounced dead on arrival at the provincial hospital after he succumbed to gunshot wounds in the neck and head.
EVERYTHING WILL BE PREMATURE
Pagdilao said, “at this time, everything will be premature and that the task group will continue its investigation despite the identification of the suspect.”
The regional police director stressed the testimonies of a tricycle driver and 44-year old Christine Beatrice Baldomero, widow of the slain Bayan Muna party-list provincial coordinator, also strengthened this case through their positive identification of the gunman, who was sighted within the vicinity of the house of the victim in several occasions.
When asked to comment on the new developments, Christine thanked the investigators for their swift actions, saying, she is also hoping for more evidences to link the suspect to the crime.
Bragais said, “through intelligence sharing of different agencies, the task force was able to acquire photographs and the profile of possible suspects. The 12-year old son readily pointed to the picture of the main suspect, who shot his father twice. The identification of Ancero was furnished by the intelligence officer of Cebu City police station.”
Pagdilao said the suspect was involved in a government bank heist in 2005 in Bogo town, illegal drug trade, frustrated murder and illegal possession of firearms.
“As to how the suspect got here in the town of Kalibo will be the subject of our continuing investigation, but, what is important is that his presence was established here in those critical times. First, prior to the incident, Ancero was here. He was also at the crime scene at the very time of the incident was pinpointed exactly by a credible witness,” Pagdilao said.
NOT ACTING ALONE
Pagdilao said he has coordinated with the Philippine National Police (PNP) units, especially in Region 7, to track down the suspect.
“Our preliminary investigation would tell us the suspect is not acting alone. What he is doing here in Aklan far from his home that is also something for the task group to dig further because we don’t believed he could have acted alone since he himself has no personal grudge against the suspect,” he added.
