Aklan solon joins P-Noy Liberal Party
BY BOY RYAN B. ZABAL

KALIBO, Aklan - Three-termer Aklan Rep. Florencio Miraflores took his oath as a Liberal Party (LP) member on Friday evening before party chairman and Senator-elect Franklin Drilon.
Miraflores ran and won under the banner of Lakas-Kampi in the May 10, 2010 election. The solon, in joining the LP, said that he puts the interest of his constituents in Aklan above all else in officially joining the Liberal Party.
Miraflores, one of the 28 lawmakers of the incoming 15th Congress who jumped over the party of President-elect Benigno Simeon ‘Ninoy’ Aquino III, joined former Iloilo City mayor and now Cong. Jerry Trenas in the oathtaking at the LP headquarters in Cubao, Quezon City.
The new LP congressmen bolstered the speakership bid of Quezon City Rep. Feliciano Belmonte, Jr. in the Lower House. At present, the party is also coalescing with the National Peoples Coalition and the Nacionalista Party to support Belmonte.
Over DyRU Super Radyo Kalibo, Miraflores said he is interested to lead the committee on tourism in the incoming House of Representatives, but, clarified there was no concession with LP leaders in bolting the administration coalition Lakas-Kampi.

Miraflores is the vice chairman of the committees on natural resources, tourism and member for the majority of the higher and technical education, oversight, land use and public order and safety committees in the 14th Congress.
Asked if Aklan Governor Carlito Marquez has indicated his desire to join him in the Liberal Party, the solon said the reelected governor will likely stay with Lakas-Kampi.
