KALIBO, Aklan – Who will now become the president of League of Municipalities of the Philippines (LMP) Aklan, an organization composed of 17 town mayors in the province?
So far, only three-termer Makato mayor Ramon ‘Jun’ Legaspi, Jr. expressed his desire to lead the Aklan mayors’ league to be vacated by outgoing Kalibo mayor Raymar Rebaldo.
Rebaldo, who secured a seat in the Sangguniang Panlalawigan last May election, is a member of LMP National Executive Committee as Island Cluster President for Visayas.
Mayor Charito Navarosa of Libacao, serving his last term, has firmly declined to seek election as LMP Aklan president while Romeo Dalisay of Nabas and Rex Gubatina of Madalag, both are three-termer mayors, have yet to confirm if they are interested to challenge the bid of Legaspi.
Aklan has two newly elected mayors in two first class municipalities, the capital town of Kalibo and the town of Malay, which has the administrative control of Boracay Island.
Incumbent vice mayor John Yap is elected mayor of Malay while former vice mayor William Lachica assumed the top post in Kalibo.
The town of Malinao also has a new mayor – incumbent councilor Wilbert Ariel Igoy while the town of Numancia also elected Adolfo Iligan as mayor. The comebacking mayors are Denny Refol of Altavas and Teodoro Calizo, Jr. of Balete.
Two term local executives are Gene Fuentes of Tangalan, Maria Lourdes Miraflores of Ibajay, Antonio Maming of Banga, Quezon Labindao of Buruanga, Victor Fernandez of Lezo, Delfina Ramos of Batan and Edgar Peralta of New Washington.
