KALIBO, Aklan – Governor Carlito Marquez said the multi-million Computerized Tomography (CT) scan equipment at the Dr. Rafael S. Tumbokon Memorial Hospital is now working and ready to serve the Aklanons.

In 2008, the provincial government, which manages and runs the provincial hospital in the capital town of Kalibo, allocated funds for the installation of CT scan. Marquez said the modern CT scan machine was non-operational after Typhoon Frank inundated the ground floor of the provincial hospital on June 2008.

“Three months before the typhoon Frank, we inaugurated the facility to serve the residents in Aklan and nearby provinces of their medical needs. When typhoon Frank devastated the province, the key components of the CT scan, especially the electronic parts were damaged by mud waters and had to be replaced. We secured the approval first to procure these parts needed for the CT scan to be fully operational," Marquez said in his weekly Governor's Report last Friday.
The governor stressed the Department of Health (DoH) has given the 'green light' for the medical workers in the three-storey provincial hospital to operate the CT scan equipment, which provide three-dimensional views of organs or blood vessels for medical imaging and diagnosis.

The hospital, which is mainly funded by provincial hospital and the World Bank, is presently upgrading its health facilities and equipment with the expansion to a 250-bed capacity and a wide range of medical services for its growing clientele.
