CBIS 98.5 Hot FM turns 5, showcases Bag-ong Tunog, Bag-ong Personalidad
BY BOY RYAN B. ZABAL

Now in its five years of public service, dyYM —98.5 on the FM band— stands out for being the only radio station operated by a local government unit in Aklan.
Beginning on May 3, the government-run radio station in the capital town of Kalibo will broadcast "Ako ro Inyong Katribu" that focus more on news and public affairs from Mondays to Thursdays from 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m.
At the helm of the new mid-morning radio program is Information Officer and station manager Ron Bautista, ably assisted by his competent field reporters and technical staff.
Faced by the stiff competition among radio stations, the Katribu's radio program segment will provide their listeners not only informative commentaries but also developmental issues and news reports from field reporters.
Baeasahon ni Choi Simon, Ka-tribung Balitaan and Tandem are part of the new offerings of DyYM this year in their 'Bag-ong Tunog, Bag-ong Personalidad, Bag-ong Ka-tribu" concept.
Katribung Ron, who accepted the challenge to lead the community radio station after his successful stint as senior field reporter of RGMA DyRU Super Radyo Kalibo for more than 10 years, cited the dedicated Katribus for their close cooperation and support to draw radio listeners with their new programming in public affairs, music and entertainment.
Significantly worth mentioned was the strategic partnership of the municipal government of Kalibo and the giant Manila Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) in bringing to life the public service envisioned by the local leaders of Kalibo.
Community Broadcast Information System (CBIS) 98.5 Hot FM is just one of a clutch of local-language radio stations being established in towns and villages across the country by MBC in partnership with local entrepreneurs and government units.
Most community radios, however, are funded primarily by external donor countries, church organizations, international development agencies and some advertising.
Over the weekend, Katribu celebrated its fifth year anniversary with the formal opening of the radio station’s studio and office at the 2nd floor of the Kalibo municipal town hall.
Rev. Fr. Jude Isidro Rebaldo officiated the blessing of the Katribu’s broadcast facilities.
Assisting him were Kalibo mayor Raymar Rebaldo, Sangguniang Bayan members Emmanuel Soviet Russia dela Cruz and Lilian Tirol, RGMA DyRU Super Radyo Kalibo station manager Butz Maquinto and outgoing CBIS station manager Terence June Toriano.
