Torn between two loved ones

(Message of Mr. Odon S. Bandiola, Secretary to the Sangguniang Panlalawigan, in the occasion of the Aklan United Media Association induction on April 23, 2010)

Tonight I am very much happy to join the ranks of my distinguished colleagues in the Aklan media community who all belong to the Aklan United Media Association, or popularly known as AUMA.
I would like to express my heartfelt congratulations to the new set of officers headed by the elected president, Winston ‘Boy’ Carillo, who by all indications is trudging the path of becoming the president for life of the AUMA, like his counterpart in the Aklan Press Club, Inc., the man whom I respect very much but to whom I always do not agree, Dr. Botoy Villorente.
The only difference between the two is that while Boy seems to be uncontested in his turf, Dr. Botoy may find a serious contender in his kingdom.
In standing here today, I am very much suffering a crisis, a crisis of identity who is torn between two loved ones whom I both feel I must be affiliated with, not carnally but professionally.
My two loved ones, of course, is the new media organization, the bright star of the night, the Aklan United Media Association and the other one I love, of course, is my original loved one, the Aklan Press Club, Inc. which I led once as its president and today being led by Dr. Villorente.
Tonight I am left with the greatest problem of choice whether to love the new club and retain loving the original club or abandon one for the other.
However, on second thought and in many instances, loving both at the same time can be feasible as present society even allow the blatant display of machoism even among their elected public officials that even philandering becomes a non-issue in world politics.
And so, I can remain with the original club, the Aklan Press Club and at the same time woo the Aklan United Media Association, which, by all indications is also receptive of my intrusion to their turf. But I am reminding you I am not a macho because certainly I look so emaciated in loving so many, many media organizations.
I must express my admiration to the media men and women of the AUMA for distinguishing themselves as a club ever active in projects and activities which all redound to the welfare and interest of their members while at the same time serving our people even at the times of crisis and calamities.
With almost all media outlets in Aklan already affiliating with the AUMA, I and Dr. Botoy cannot help but worry always thinking whether there are still media personalities left to the membership of the Aklan Press Club.
For sure, the oldies will remain with the mother club, the Aklan Press Club, the mother club event if we do not have any longer children to nourish and nurture.
Almost all the children have become stubborn and fled to other lovely clubs, but we parents as we are always chose to remain in an ancestral home which we cannot afford to abandon.
But dynamism still remains in our media community in this province. The past two months had been very busy for us which started with our direct involvement in the publicity and promotions of the West Visayas Regional Athletic Association Meet in March, the celebration of the Kapihan sa Aklan 2nd year anniversary, the preparations for the Tribute to Kel Tolentino and now, the celebration of the Press Freedom Week which the AUMA and Boy Ryan Zabal of the Aklan Police and Defense Press Corps and PAPI spearheaded. This is highlighted by tonight’s induction.
I am also very much pleased that even if I am comparatively busy with my work as the Secretary to the Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Aklan, I had even become more active in the activities of the media community in Aklan because I am inspired with the leadership in the AUMA, Aklan Press Club, the Aklan Police and Defense Press Corps, the Aklan SP Press Corps, the Aklan Media Forum and the Publishers Association of the Philippines, Inc.
During the past five years, I have no inhibition in participating in the Aklan media affairs because my bosses, then Vice Governor Ronquillo C. Tolentino and now Vice Governor Billie Calizo-Quimpo are the most media-friendly public officials of the province and are encouraging me to be even more active in media activities.
I salute all the officers and members of the AUMA on your tonight’s induction ceremonies. Lots of work all of us in the media community this even if we had been relatively busy in the past.
Thank you very much and good evening.
