KALIBO, Aklan – The Philippine Information Agency (PIA) in cooperation with the Office of the Vice Governor and the Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Aklan will hold a Precinct Count Optical Scanner (PCOS) machine demonstration and orientation on the automated election system on March 27.
PIA officer-in-charge Venus Villanueva said the registered voters must be equipped with information and the right ideas about the first nationwide automated of the polls and how the Precinct Count Optical Scanner (PCOS) machine works.
“The public demonstration of the PCOS machine for government information officers, Sangguniang Bayan secretaries and the local media is important in this historic political exercise,” she said.
The Commission of Elections (Comelec) will also answer questions during the voter's education forum to be held at the Aklan SP session hall at 2 p.m. on possible machine failure, hacking and credibility of PCOS machines during the May polls.
Last month, the poll body had set up PCOS road show in different towns and cities across the country to educate a greater number of people, especially election officers and the Board of Canvassers of the computerized machines in preparation for the May elections.
Voters for the May 10 elections are required to shade the oval area beside the pre-printed names of all candidates under the PCOS system. The ballots will be run through the voting machines of Smartmatic, which will then read and automatically count the votes.
