KALIBO, Aklan – Miss Jessa Costelo from Negros Occidental was crowned Ms. Western Visayas Regional Athletic Association (WVRAA) Palaro 2010 held at the Gov. Augusto B. Legaspi Sports and Cultural Complex Sunday night here.
Costelo, 16, earlier won five special awards for Best in Talent, Best in Sports Wear, Best in Formal Attire, Best in Interview and Best in Question and Answer.
Antique’s taekwondo athlete Jeffrey George Laureta, 15, outlasted four competitors from Capiz, Iloilo, Negros Occidental and host province Aklan for the Mr. WVRAA Palaro 2010 crown. He also received the special awards for Best in Interview, Best in Formal Attire, Best in Festive Costume and Best in Talent.
Only five provinces in Western Visayas except for the province of Guimaras joined this year’s Mr. and Ms. WVRAA Palaro 2010.
Other winners were 16-year old arnis athlete Jeremiah Estrada of Aklan and 15-year old swimming bet Zen delos Reyes of Iloilo for the 2nd runner-up
The 1st runner-ups were 16-year old Joseph Stephen Saneo, Jr. of Iloilo, who also grabbed the special award for Mr. Congeniality and 15-year old Portia Dialdoco of Antique, who received the special award for Best in Festive Costume.
Other candidates were 15-year old taekwondo athlete Evangeline Sapanza and Mar Angelo Rivera of Capiz and Iloilo’s archery athlete Micho Santillan who got Best in Sports Wear special award. Aklan’s 16-year old titlist Ma. A’Rose Joy Martirez was also proclaimed Ms. Congeniality.

The four-hour beauty pageant was graced by Aklan Schools Division Superintendent Victorina Laroza, Aklan Provincial Tourism Council co-chairman Vicky Ramos-Antonino, Deped regional director Mildred Garay, Deped assistant regional director Corazon Brown and Corazon Polohan, chief RMSPP of DepEd Region VI.
The judges were Aklan Vice Governor Gabrielle Calizo-Quimpo, Aklan Sangguniang Panlalawigan member Selwyn Ibarreta, Kalibo Sangguniang Bayan member Mark Vega Quimpo, Miss Philippines Air 2009 Michelle Martha Braun and Abigail Humady.
The Mr. and Ms. WVRAA Palaro 2010 pageant and coronation night were hosted by Maria Santia Arboleda, Christine Nabor, Rheyda Tejada and Julius Macabantad.
