Stop 'organized groups' of prostitutes in Boracay
BY BOY RYAN B. ZABAL / Panay News / Manila Bulletin

BORACAY- Aklan Vice Governor Gabrielle Calizo said 'organized groups' of prostitutes from nearby provinces have been flocking to the resort island of Boracay as the summer tourist season starts peaking.
The vice governor urged the Boracay police to crack down on the sex workers’ groups involving mostly young women and to step up efforts to arrest them, especially those targeting foreigners.
Supt. Arnold Ardiente, chief of Boracay Special Tourist Protection Office (BSTPO), said the prostitutes ply their trade in bars and restaurants where foreigners are frequently seen.
"There are lady boys (police jargon for homosexuals) and prostitutes every time tourists are coming in Boracay. They are used to seeing foreigners and stay in the island for a living," he said.
Many foreigners flock to this island famous for white sand beaches and its colorful nightlife. The visitors usually stay late nights in bars and clubs, and sex workers from nearby islands compete to attract clients with countless other local girls working as prostitutes.
Ardiente said the Boracay police have arrested 38 women and transexual prostitutes for vagrancy and seven cases were filed in court for the past two months.

Last year, the Aklan Police Provincial Office (APPO) reported 32 cases where 36 minors were abused and 16 young women suspected to be engaged in prostitution were rescued.
Calizo said the sex workers should be closely monitored starting at the Caticlan jetty port before they enter Boracay.

I was told that a General (retired?) and a very concerned citizen walked along the stretch of the long beach one night and did not find a prostitute. I wonder where were they looking at, the sea? I guess they didn't find one Ati.

crack them down then what? yes, the other comment is right, election is coming! what has been done so far to promote our desired culture or even values. everything seems to be for sale as long as the price is right.
these commercial sex workers (csw) is the product of the different factors that influence an individual as he/she grows up til he/she chooses a lifestyle that has been conditioned in his mind as they grow up.i don't know if how many of us are quite aware what kind of sexual mesages a small child can pick up when he /she watches a tv. a child wlaking along the beach with their parents might thought that life really is just like this when she grows up ... sunset drinks, partying, drugs, sex.
to associate csw with poverty wouldn't just enough. we have millions of poor people with dignified way of living and don't have to go to prostitution.
what about the church, schools? has there beren enough programs or talk on this issues? even our values and culture is dwindling. these politicians, have they done enough to promote a child friendly environment? is there enough effort to recover or promote the dwindlin family values and even the culture?
these people actually are just victims of society itself. there's much more to do for the government than just cracking them up.
