NTC agents raid Kalibo cellular shops
BY BOY RYAN B. ZABAL / Panay News / Manila Bulletin

KALIBO, Aklan - National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) operatives from Iloilo City raided unregistered cell phone dealers Tuesday morning here.
Engr. Nestor Monroy said the crackdown on cell phone retailers was a joint operation of the NTC and the Kalibo Philippine National Police (PNP).
“The raids were conducted to protect consumers from substandard products and fake cell phones,” he said.
He revealed that some dealers did not have any proper documents authorizing them to sell cell phones.
“It is an NTC regulation that each cell phone being sold should bear the NTC sticker or logo,” Monroy explained.
NTC agents seized 73 mobile phones from unregistered establishments owned by Koreans.
Monroy said the raid was conducted after they were alerted by Kalibo police chief Sr. Insp. Arnolito Laguerta that the stalls do not have the required permits from the NTC.
It is up to NTC Regional Director Eleuterio Navarro Jr. to decide if administrative cases would be filed against the erring store owners, he added.
NTC Memorandum Circular 200204-A requires all cell phone retailers to secure permits from the NTC to operate aside from the business permit from the local government unit.
