KALIBO, Aklan - The construction of the three-storey building of Aklan Police Provincial Office (APPO) at Camp Pastor Martelino is ongoing.
Senior Supt.Clarence Guinto, Aklan police director, said the P8.9-million building is funded by the Philippine National Police (PNP), the provincial government of Aklan, and the Congressional District Office.
Micro-Asia Builders Construction, a Bacolod-based construction firm, is the project contractor. The state-of-the-art building, which started its construction on February 23, is expected to be completed within six months.
APPO was adjudged by the Police Regional Office-6 as the "Best Provincial Police Office of the Year" in Western Visayas during the PNP 18th founding anniversary at Camp Martin Delgado in Iloilo City on February 13.
APPO was also cited by the United States and New Zealand governments for its support in the Department of Justice training programs as part of the PNP Integrated Transformation Program (ITP).
"The modernization of the facilities and offices is a priority project of the PNP all over the country. The new building in Aklan will house the administrative and operations department of the 600-strong personnel of APPO," Guinto said.
Last December 13, 2007, PNP Director General Jesus Versoza led the groundbreaking ceremony of the proposed police building with Aklan Gov. Carlito Marquez and Aklan Rep. Florencio Miraflores.
APPO is strongly implementing the reform initiatives of the PNP to enhance the capabilities and effectiveness of policemen against crime and terrorism, Guinto said.
