Aklan gov't to develop Calangcang sports complex
BY BOY RYAN B. ZABAL / Manila Bulletin / Panay News

KALIBO, Aklan - The provincial government is keen to develop the 6.5-hectare Aklan Calangcang Sports Complex in Makato, Aklan for the hosting of the regional athletic competition in 2010.
Provincial Engineer Victory Fernandez said the funding for the sports complex construction would be taken from the P55-million loan peso of the provincial government from the Land Bank of the Philippines.
"The sports facility will rise in the 10-hectare lot at Barangay Calangcang in Makato, Aklan. It will be ready by the first quarter of 2010 to host the regional competition for athletes in Western Visayas," he said.
The sports complex features the P35-million rubberized track and field oval, P20-million Olympic-size swimming pools and 5,000-seat main grandstand for the staging of the weeklong Western Visayas Regional Athletic Association (WVRAA) Meet next year.
Fernandez said the construction would be in full swing starting this April once the provincial government finalized the partnership with the Aklan State University.
Future plans, Fernandez said, call for development of other sports facilities and amenities for an estimated P200-million budget to finish the construction of a modern sports complex.
Aklan Governor Carlito Marquez earlier asked the approval of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan to enter into a loan agreement with a government bank for the sports complex construction.
"We hope to complete it (sports complex) within this year, in time, for the regional sports event to be held here in Aklan,” Fernandez said.
The upgrading of Aklan Calangcang Sports Complex into a modern, international standard sports facility is a priority infrastructure project of Marquez.

Yeah!! Go Aklan Go!!!In reality, only Boracay and Aklan province as a whole, is the only good news from the Philippines. And, don't ever let that pandak from stinky Manila ever set foot in Boracay, she is scaring foreign tourists away. Let Aklanons leads the way.

So where is the budget and funding coming from? Who is paying for it? Why is it a loan from Landbank? What about all the money that Aklan is getting from Boracay's success? Where are they?
