KALIBO, Aklan – Senior Superintendent Clarence Guinto led the Aklan Police Provincial Office (APPO) in honoring the ‘partners of police’ for their contributions to the accomplishments of the Philippine National Police (PNP).
Guinto said the province of Aklan has the most responsive, empowered and engaged citizenry taking part with the police in the fight against criminality.
“The people of Aklan are peace loving, God-fearing and very hospitable. This makes our work easy,” he stressed.
The presentation of awards to outstanding policemen, non-government organizations, government agencies, individuals, and the media highlighted this year’s celebration of the 18th founding anniversary of the PNP under the theme, “"Pambansang Pulisya: Kaagapay ng Mamamayan sa Kapayapaan at Kaunlaran."
Aklan Governor Carlito Marquez, Vice Governor Gabrielle Calizo, Supt. Arnold Ardiente, Monsignor Jose Dollete of the Diocese of Kalibo and the town mayors graced the occasion at Camp Pastor Martelino yesterday.
Guinto also credited the three institutions – the home, schools and church – in the police pro-active approach in preventing crimes in the communities.
“I have been inculcating to our policemen to always make their presence be felt by the community. They should always be visible. Your policemen were on every corner of the streets. This is the best way the police can prevent crimes – police visibility,” he said.
The province of Aklan, Guinto said, is the safest place to live, work, invest and do business with.
In 2008, Aklan registered a total crime volume of 408 incidents, the lowest in Western Visayas with a crime rate posted at 8.2.
“This means that for every 100,000 population, only 8 were victimized by crimes in 2008. The crime solution efficiency of 95 percent is also the highest in the region,” Guinto said.
The 600-strong men and women of APPO are committed to a vision of a professional, dynamic and highly motivated PNP working in partnership with a responsive community.
