BORACAY - Aklan Gov. Carlito Marquez hailed the entry of Shangri-La Boracay Resort and Spa saying that the presence of this new hotel will boost the tourism industry of Boracay.
The multi-billion investment in Boracay by Hongkong-based Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts offered more than 500 jobs for the locals and first-class facilities to foreign tourists.
"The resort has a captured market or international travelers that could generate more opportunities and thereby, enhance the emerging tourism industry in Aklan, particularly, in Boracay Island," he said.
Marquez was invited by the leading luxury hotel chain last week during the Shangri-La Boracay pre-opening. He toured the hotel together with its general manager Andrew Kretschman and resident manager Maggie Garcia.
The governor took a peek on the leisure facilities and deluxe rooms with private plunge pools.
Marquez said the full operations of Shangri-La Boracay will also complement the ongoing tourism investments and developments by the national government to enhance the status of Boracay Island as the premier island tourist destination of the country.
Shangri-La Boracay, the first six-star international resort in the island, has scheduled its soft opening in the first week of March this year. It is situated on the northern part of Boracay with 219 rooms including 36 villas and suites.
The 12-hectare resort is designed by Bangkok-based American company Bensley Designers equipped with outdoor plunge pool, showers, whirlpool, and pergola for all fresco dining.
