KALIBO, Aklan – Philippine National Police (PNP) Deputy Director General Jesus Versoza urged local government units (LGUs) to support the Model Police Station (MPS) project.
“To advocate the programs of Program Management Office, we have to develop the skills of the police. Trainings must go hand-in-hand in the development of offices, firearms and communication equipments,” he stressed during the launching of Aklan Police Provincial Police (APPO) as MPS site.
Verzosa said the improvement of the physical appearance of APPO under the leadership of Senior Supt. Benigno Durana Jr. and the enhancement of law enforcement services would gain the trust and confidence of the community in the police.
“The MPS project gained the continuous support of the US government. This is a start off; we are looking for areas like Kalibo and Boracay Island where stations could improve the police service. APPO is a showcase of police efficiency at its best,” he said.
Verzosa said the MPS project would also involve trainings of policemen to be more efficient and responsive in their duties.
“One of the aspects of this project is to gather the different sectors. We accept there is an existing problem and that with the MPS project, hopefully, there would be dialogue and workshops as an opener to serve the citizenry,” Verzosa said.
The project’s three vital aspects in improving law enforcement services - facilities development, systems and procedures, and human resources should be supported by the local government and non-government units, he pointed out.
