CHECKPOINTS. The Aklan PNP has reminded its men to conduct checkpoints as part of its Oplan Bakal and Oplan Sita campaign to minimize street crimes (BRZabal)
KALIBO, Aklan - Senior Supt. Benigno Durana Jr., acting Aklan police director, ordered his men to strictly enforce Oplan “Sita” and Oplan “Bakal”.
Durana reminded his men to be continually vigilant in the conduct of inspections inside nightclubs, beer joints, disco pubs and other nightspots.
“The Philippine National Police (PNP) is stepping up its campaign against those carrying deadly weapons or firearms,” Durana said over Bombo Radyo Kalibo.
He stressed the local police were directed to lead police checkpoints.
Monday morning, a shootout transpired near a bar at the Kalibo airport. Two civilians from Dumangas, Iloilo and Tangalan, Aklan were killed. Recovered from them were a .22 pistol and a .38.
"Oplan Bakal is effective in preventing the occurrence of crimes in nightspots during unannounced spot inspections," Durana said, adding that those crimes could be prevented if nightspots and bars have security guards.
Durana also thanked the Aklanons for their continued support to the Aklan Police Provincial Office, especially in reporting crimes.
There is an ongoing ban on PNP personnel from frequenting nightclubs and cockpit arenas, he added.
He also directed his station commanders to closely monitor the activities during barangay fiestas.
A police officer was charged with homicide before the Aklan Provincial Prosecutors Office after he shot to death a barangay tanod in Brgy. Cahilo fiesta in Makato, Aklan last week.
