Aklan PNP confiscates 25 firearms, nabs 18 gun ban violators

KALIBO, Aklan – The Aklan Police Provincial Office (APPO) has 18 cases filed in court for violations of Commission on Elections (Comelec) gun ban.
PO1 Nida Gregas, APPO public information officer, said the violations against Comelec Resolution No. 7764-A accounted for 25 firearms, of which 21 were confiscated, three recovered and one weapon was voluntarily surrendered by 18 apprehended suspects.
Senior Supt. Benigno B Durana Jr, acting Aklan police director, stressed the APPO has strictly implemented the gun ban throughout the province since January 14, 2007 and the conduct of elections this province resulted to an honest, peaceful, orderly and credible.
Of the 18 violators, 7 suspects were apprehended by Boracay Special Tourist Protection Office (BSTPO), two persons each by PNP Libacao, New Washington and Malinao while four suspects were nabbed by APPO, Tangalan, Kalibo , Buruanga and Makato.
Gregas said the gun ban also led to the confiscation of seven high-powered firearms, six low-powered firearms, 12 homemade firearms and 230 live ammunitions.
Out of 12 homemade firearms accounted, Gregas added, three firearms were recovered and a firearm was voluntary surrendered and seven fragmentation hand grenade (FHG) were recovered.
