BATAN, Aklan – A former supporter of three-termer mayor Herodutos Ramos filed a disqualification case against the opponent of incumbent Vice Mayor Dante Reyes before the Commission on Elections (Comelec).
Aloysius Perlas filed the disqualification complaint Thursday last week against the 60-year-old wife of the incumbent mayor, Delfina Ramos (Kampi). He said Mrs. Ramos failed to establish a one-year residency in Brgy. Palay, Batan.
Perlas said under Section 39 of Republic Act No. 7160 or the Local Government Code of 1991, an elective local official should be a registered voter and resident of the barangay for at least one year immediately preceding the day of the election.
In a three-page petition, Perlas stressed that Delfina Ramos was not a registered voter of Brgy. Palay in the May 14, 2001 national and local elections and May 10, 2004 elections. He submitted to the Comelec a certification by Election Officer II Carlito Dionela.
“She made false representations in her Certificate of Candidacy that she was a registered voter of Precinct No. 63-B, of Brgy. Palay,” Perlas claimed.
Over RMN DyKR Kalibo, Mayor Ramos accused the camps of Reyes, who is running under the United Opposition, behind the disqualification case filed by Perlas against her wife.
Ramos, a native of Consolacion, Cebu City, filed her certificate of candidacy on March 27 before the local Comelec.
In a related development, the Comelec is hoping to resolve all disqualification cases before the May 14 polls and if there is no final ruling before election day, the candidate in question can participate in the election.
