Mobo-Garcia 'undecided' to run for Aklan governor

CLAMOR FOR CHANGE. Maria Bettina Garcia (center) of the Tres Marias issued statements during a press conference last night, March 21, 2007, at her residence with the Aklan print and broadcast media (ACMagno)

SINCE I last spoke out in January, many events have occurred.
Back then, I spoke directly from my heart out of my concern for my young children of the conspiracy that culminated with the public besmirching of my name and person.
Today I come to you as a voice of admonition and appeal.
In the ensuing weeks, many politicians and first time political aspirants will be shouting at the top of their lungs to get your attention and hopefully win your support.
In the latest voters’ registration census in Aklan, a significant segment of those who are eligible to choose the next leaders of our province will be from the youth. Therefore, the destiny of our province depends on the opinions of Aklanon young men and women under twenty-five.
Many of you will be voting for the first time. I urge you get involved! Get engaged in the issues that beset our beloved province.
Painting the broadest of brush strokes, there are career politicians who hide their records of years of anemic public service behind a veneer of genteel smiles and earnest handshakes.
There are political novices who truly desire genuine change; while others will try to recapture the glory of bygone days and lost promise of previous generation – all with an eye towards enriching themselves once in office.
Some will promise everything to win your trust and confidence.
Many will orchestrate a massive misinformation campaign.
Others may resort to intimidation, outright violence and skullduggery.
Such usurpation of and threats to your rights to choose should be strongly condemned and out rightly rejected.
I truly believe in my heart that Aklan’s youth has a lot to offer; because I see I in the lives of my own family.
One thing my father did was to strongly advocate for potential youth leaders.
Also because Daddy died when my siblings and I were still in school. We struggled with the same issues that many Aklanons face today. Sacrifices had to be made because of limited financial resources. Education was expensive; so was food, clothing, shelter.
Fortunately, our parents had inculcated in us early on the love of knowledge.
Today, we, the seven siblings are in a better position because of the decision to pursue higher education.
Our successes in all sides of the Atlantic Ocean were based not on who we were; rather such achievements were predicated on what we wanted to become of ourselves.
Indeed, many of us have proven that talent, determination, and strong work ethics trump money or even lack thereof.
FOR THE AKLAN YOUTH
And such is the same promise Aklan’s youth has. It is now your turn to fulfill such wonderful promise. Thus, I dare you to dream lofty dreams! “Hold yourself for a higher standard than anyone else expects of you.”
Tomorrow is not promised just to a few, but to all. Your vision is the promise of what you shall one day be; your idea of yourself is the prophecy of what you shall unveil.
Do not compromise! Do not waste the opportunity! Do not throw away your future!
Sa mga kasimanwa ko mga Aklanon. Do not vote for politicians because you think they are perfect.
Indi nyo pagbotohan ro mga kandidato nga rod a-eangan it panirbisyo hay pagbawi it milyon milyon nandang ginastos para magdaog sa eleksyon! Pilion ninyo ru naga serbisyo kinyo it husto.
Botohan ninyo ro mga kandidato nga gadamgo ku inyo nga damgo, gabatyag ag kasayod ku inyong ba-eatyagon.
Pilion ninyo ru iya sa tanang oras, ag kasayod it problema it pumu-eoyong Aklanon.

Friends, vote for those candidates who embody your dreams, your ideals, and your aspirations. Because the future of this province and your children are at stake.
That’s why, in these coming electoral polls – I urge you to go out and vote – because decisions are made by those who show up and vote.
Make this election also a stop sign for those wanting to come to office to enrich themselves and their cohort.
When I started my personal crusade for change in Aklan politics, sadly, I was alone. There are even people whom I trust and respect urged me not to run for congress.
Then one development led to another. My voice was heard, and it was joined by others. Thus, the Tres Marias came the consciousness of the Aklanons.
We did some really serious efforts to join forces; but the constant rollercoaster of decision and indecision of one have caused us so much delay and backlog.
AKLANONS DESERVE A BETTER CHOICE
Like on March 10, 2007, Vicky Ramos has made a pronouncement to us – Billie and I in the presence of Mr. Antonino that she will not run for governor. That same day meeting, I also informed them of my decision not to run for congress.
Given the situation, like any normal response, our adaptive reaction is no rarity. Forced to make repeated adaptations to her uncertainty, I considered running for gubernatorial position to save the group. This move was overwhelmingly received not only by our family, but also by our political peers and allies.
So how can I turn my back to this clear expression and manifestation of support should I run for governor?
Ginaklaro ko, uwa’t akon nagpang-agaw it posisyon. I slided down because Nang Vicky said she will not run and I don’t want to jeopardize my commitment and leave the group hanging in the air of unknowingly.
Six days later, on March 16, 2007, Nang Billie unexpectedly informed me that Nang Vicky again decided to run. To this date, I still cannot fathom what happened from the time – in the afternoon of March 15, 2007 I left the residence of the Calizos in Balete up to 11:30 a.m. the next day when I was told of the change of mind again.
How can I work with a person who keeps on changing her mind every week, everyday, every minute and every second? How can I work with people who cannot even make me part of an important decision? Paano eon lat-ana ru grupo? Kueang eon kami it oras.
We often have to bear her dramatic flips and flops, shifts and changes. In the end, our differences of opinion and vision towards consequential leadership have taken their toll.
That is also the reason why we stayed away interviews and media pronouncements. For there is a possibility that we may decide to pursue our advocacies separately.
For my part I will do what I see fit after due consultation. I will announce my political plans before the deadline of the filing of candidacy.
In my trips around the province, I have come to believe the problems besetting Aklan are real and are now. Aklanons deserve a real choice.
However, I will consider only the position kung siin ako gusto it tawo.
Thank you.

It is nice to hear Maria Bettina Mobo Garcia talks about better choice for Aklan.

When the word better is used, it has to go with comparison - why one is better than the other. She needs to explain what are the criteria for chosing and what is the yardstick to measure that a choice is better than the other. These criteria should be SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic and Time-bound). For example, you can say:

When I am the governonr, I will increase the average personal income of the Aklanons from XX to YY within a period of 1 year. To measure the income, the yardstick is as follows XXXXXX.

Leaving it hanging without the accompanying explanations is a great disservice to the Aklanons.
