WV 2006 tourist arrivals generate P23-B receipts

ILOILO City – Western Visayas, noted for its beautiful Boracay Island and famous gourmet, was able to generate P23,744,275,191 income because of foreign and domestic tourists who came to enjoy the region in 2006.
The Department of Tourism (DOT) regional office here said that based on their partial report received from the provincial offices, tourists who came here last year numbering 1,291,615 generated the receipts for the region.
Of these tourists, 239,239 of them were foreigners and 983,788 were domestic.
Tourists who went to Boracay in Aklan Province, totaled 567,421. Of the number, 184,363 were foreigners and 351,537 domestic, that generated an income of P10,431,127,211.40 for the hotels, restaurants and other commercial establishments in the white-sand beach.
Iloilo City and the province registered the second highest number of tourist arrivals in Western Visayas with its 361,225 figure and total receipts of P6,640,543,665.
The other provinces in Western Visayas that have benefited based on the number of tourist arrivals and receipts generated are Negros Occidental, Guimaras, Antique and Capiz.
