PNP Aklan told motorists: Wear helmets
BY BOY RYAN B. ZABAL

KALIBO, Aklan – Motorcycle riders must wear helmets. If not, they will be arrested, warned Senior Supt. Benigno Durana Jr., acting Aklan police director.
Durana also reminded his men to be models in obedience by wearing helmets themselves when they are riding on police motorcycle patrols.
"The Aklan Police Provincial Office (APPO) will be strictly enforcing the law on the use of helmets,” Durana said, citing the rise in the number of casualties and injuries to motorists because of their failure to wear helmets.
Even “backriders” would be required to wear helmets, not the motorcycle drivers only, Durana added.
“Helmets protect motorcycle riders from harm should they meet road accidents,” he explained.
Land Transportation Office (LTO) Asst. Regional Director Eric Lenard Tabaldo earlier assured the deployment of regular personnel from LTO to impose existing traffic rules instead of contractual employees that seemed to tarnish the image of the agency.
"No more 'Flying Squad' to apprehend violators in Aklan ," he stressed.
The LTO agents and enforcers are flagging down vehicles in the national highways with no license plates or seatbelts and confiscate licenses of violators.
Some drivers here reportedly went to LTO office in Iloilo City after the Flying Squad confiscated their licenses.
