Durana is new Aklan police director
BY BOY RYAN B. ZABAL

KALIBO, Aklan – The next police director of Aklan is Senior Supt. Benigno Durana. He is taking the post of Supt. William Macavinta.
According to Philippine National Police (PNP) Director General Oscar Calderon, Macavinta’s relief is part of the massive revamp of provincial directors in 32 provinces and five cities to guarantee the impartiality of the police during elections in May.
Durana is one of the Country’s Outstanding Policemen in Service (COPS) and former chief of the Police Anti-Crime Emergency Response (PACER) in National Capital Region (NCR). He was also the former head of the Central Police District.
The revamp of police officials nationwide was recommended by PNP Deputy Director Gen. Avelino Razon Jr.
National Police Director for Personnel Nicolas Pasinos said the first to be relieved are police officials who have already exceeded the mandatory two-year tour of duty in a particular area of assignment.
Last week, during the turnover of the regional police command in Iloilo City, Calderon said the reshuffling of police officials is normal in the organization to ensure that these officials would not be used for political purposes by politicians during elections.
New regional police director Chief Supt. Wilfredo Dulay Sr. added the relief of police officials has “no political color.”
Meanwhile, Senior Supt. Co Yee Co replaces Capiz police director Senior Supt. Cipriano Querol Jr.
Macavinta assumed as acting Aklan provincial director in 2005 after the late Supt. Odelardo Magayanes was killed in a shooting carnage during the Kalibo Ati-Atihan Festival.
