‘I'm ready, says Macavinta on impending relief
BY BOY RYAN B. ZABAL

KALIBO, Aklan – Acting provincial police director Supt. William Macavinta is ready to relinquish his post.
Macavinta said he was informed of his relief during a regional command conference in Iloilo City last week that Chief Supt. Wilfredo Dulay Sr., who replaced outgoing regional director Chief Supt. Geary Barias, called.
“I am ready for my relief since as police official we stand for the two-year tour of duty,” he said over DYRG Budyong ng Kalibo.
He said “the relief could take effect before or after the At-Atihan festival,” but he clarified, the relief is part of PNP’s reshuffling of police officials.
PNP Director General Oscar Calderon, who witnessed Dulay's assumption to the top post of the Police Regional Office (PRO-6) last week, revealed at least 40 provincial directors would be reassigned before the 2007 midterm elections.
Macavinta assumed as provincial director of the Aklan Police Provincial Office (APPO) in 2005. He was assigned by former PNP chief Edgardo Aglipay after the Ati-Atihan festival shooting carnage that killed two senior police officials and left 30 others wounded.
“I’m keeping my fingers crossed. So far, I still didn’t know my next assignment,” he added.
Dulay said the relief of Macavinta has no ‘political motives’ since his allowable stay in the province as police director is already up.
The newly installed regional director, however, declined to disclose the replacement of Macavinta.
A current police director for Police Community Relations (PCR) in Camp Delgado in Iloilo City is reportedly eyeing the post of Macavinta.
Dulay is expected to grace the blessing and inauguration of APPO’s multi-purpose building and firing range at Camp Pastor Martelino in Brgy. New Buswang with PNP chief Calderon today.
They will also inaugurate the newly-built sub-station of the Boracay Special Tourist Protection Office (BSTPO) at Cagban jetty port in Bgy. Manoc-Manoc, Boracay Island .
