Durana told cops to enhance fight on street crimes
BY BOY RYAN B. ZABAL

KALIBO, Aklan - Newly installed Aklan police director Senior Supt. Benigno Durana Jr. ordered his men step up their campaign against street crimes.
“We at the Aklan Provincial Police Office (APPO) must appreciate time-tested methods but at the same time be open to changes. We must do it together,” said Durana, an active member of the Spring of Living Water Growth Group.
Durana, 42, assumed as APPO director over the weekend vice Supt. William Macavinta. The turnover of command was witnessed by Chief Supt. Jose Antonio Salvacion, Director for Logistics of the Philippine National Police; Chief Supt. Wilfredo Dulay Sr, regional police director; and Chief Supt. Geary Barias, Director for Investigation and Detective Management of the PNP based in Camp Crame.
“Let’s us not forget our business as police officers -- to improve the quality of life of our people and dealing with street crimes effectively,” he told Aklan policemen.
Durana, in his informal meeting with Altavas Mayor Denny Refol, Buruanga Mayor Concepcion Labindao and Kalibo Mayor Raymar Rebaldo, stressed that the peace and order situation of the 17 towns of Aklan must be maintained.
Durana, a Metrobank Foundation Search for the Country's Outstanding Policemen in Service (Cops) 2005 recipient, underwent a six-month strategic management training course with the London police involving criminal investigation, handling of hostages and other crisis situations, and counterterrorism last year.
“Whether at the height of challenge or celebration, I will be here for all of you in times of victory not just as acting police director but as a father and a fellow servant of God and the people,” he stressed.
Durana, a member of the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) Class 1988, was also the chief of the Police Anti-Crime Emergency Response (Pacer) based in Metro Manila.
He led police operations to neutralize the Ilonggo-Waray robbery and kidnap-for-ransom group and the most wanted masterminds of the Calauag massacre.
Durana was also assigned at the Office of the Chief Directorial Staff, PNP Camp Crame in 2005 and former head of PNP’s Transformation Program during the stint of PNP chief Arturo Lomibao.
