Kalibo, Aklan – In a show of support to the first-ever Aklan Media Summit this week, Cong. Florencio Miraflores hailed the media’s acknowledged power as a catalyst of change that strengthens the resolve of Aklanons to attract investments as a strategy for growth.
Miraflores in his message to the Publishers Association of the Philippines Inc. (PAPI) and the provincial government of Aklan, said the summit will highlight Aklan’s competitive advantage in the area of tourism and the downstream industries that go with it.
The summit is slated on October 26-29, 2006 here and in the island of Boracay participated by some 200 media practitioners from the different parts of the country.
Local government secretary Ronaldo Puno, National Press Club (NPC) president Roy Mabasa, Trade and Industry secretary Carissa Cruz, Metrorail Transit general manager Roberto Lastimoso, Public Works secretary Hermogenes Ebdane Jr, Cotabato Gov. Emmanuel Pinol and Petron president Nicasio Alcantara have been invited to grace the four-day summit.
Miraflores stressed the adopted theme for this year’s summit “The Role of the Press in Spotlighting Investment Opportunities in Aklan,” is very timely, relevant and conveys the idea of the important role the media play in marketing Aklan not only to the rest of the Philippines but most importantly, to the rest of the world.
“I am very optimistic that with media as a strong partner, the Province of Aklan can tremendously maximize its potentials. I say these – let us put our best foot forward as we advance our shared agenda of peace and progress,” Miraflores pointed out.
Gov. Carlito Marquez also appreciated the special focus of the summit on investment opportunities of Aklan and praised the media as a potent vehicle in spotlighting the investment potentials to the eyes of the whole nation and widely throughout the world.
“Admittedly, Aklan has still plenty of economic potentials waiting to be tapped and with the appropriate infusion of capital these potentials can be fully developed and move this province further forward to progress and economic advancement,” he said.
