KALIBO, Aklan – Three weeks before the first-ever Aklan Media Summit starts in this town and the resort island of Boracay, Gov. Carlito Marquez signified the provincial government's support to the summit.
Over Kabaeaka program of Kalibo Cable TV, Marquez hailed the Publishers Association of the Philippines Inc (PAPI) lead by its president, Juan “Johnny” Dayang, for choosing the province as the venue of the four-day media summit.
"The media summit is also a marketing strategy to encourage more investors, particularly in power generation, to propel Aklan's twin programs - tourism and agriculture," he stressed.
The summit, slated on October 26-29, 2006, banners the theme, "The Role of the Press in Spotlighting the Investment Opportunities in Aklan." About 200 publishers, editors, reporters, writers, broadcasters and public information officers in the country are expected to grace the summit.
Public Works Secretary Hermogenes Ebdane, Jr, Metrorail Transit manager Gen. Roberto Lastimoso, National Press Club (NPC) President Roy Mabasa, Aklan Gov. Carlito Marquez, Manila Bulletin Editor Fred Gabot, Aklan State University (ASU) president Benny Palma, Cotabato Gov. Emmanuel Pinol and National Commission on Culture and the Arts (NCCA) Director Cecil Guidote-Alvarez have been invited to the summit.
Dayang said the media event also highlights a forum on investment opportunities in Aklan, a journalism seminar on ethics and libel, and an exclusive seminar on strategic communications management and public relations seminar for public information officers and public affairs executives.
"This is also an opportunity for Aklanons to showcase their hospitality,” he pointed out.On October 28, the delegates will proceed to Boracay Island for a tour. A farewell party and a conferment of awards and citations to outstanding officials culminate the summit here.
