KALIBO, Aklan – Publishers Association of the Philippines Inc.’s (PAPI) Juan “Johnny” Dayang said their journalism seminar on ethics, libel, and responsible reporting is open to young writers, too, and not just to practicing journalists.
A media summit is slated on October 26-29, 2006 here and in the island of Boracay to equip journalists with skills on news writing, column writing, editorial writing and broadcasting.
The seminar will also tackle ethical and responsible reporting, he said.
“Like the Cotabato Media Summit last August 26 in Kidapawan City, there is a growing need to enhance the skills of journalists with strict adherence to the journalistic code of ethics,” Dayang added.
PAPI and the provincial government of Aklan under Gov. Carlito Marquez and Vice Gov. Ronquillo Tolentino are organizing a four-day summit with the theme, “The Role of the Press in Spotlighting the Investment Opportunities in Aklan.”
Dayang said there would be a seminar on Strategic Communications Management & Public Relations for information officers in Aklan to be conducted by top caliber public relations practitioners and communicators both in the public and private sectors from Manila .
About 100 publishers, editors, columnists, commentators, and broadcasters from all over the country are expected to grace the media summit at the Gov. Corazon L. Cabagnot Tourism and Training Center in Brgy. Old Buswang, this town.
Veteran journalists Fred Gabot, Press Secretary Ignacio Bunye, Tourism Secretary Joseph Ace Durano, National Press Club president Roy Mabasa and Cotabato province Gov. Emmanuel Piñol are expected to attend the summit.
