PDA revival welcomed
BY BOY RYAN B. ZABAL

KALIBO, Aklan –- Vice Gov. Ronquillo Tolentino supports the revival of the Panay Development Authority (PDA) to spur development in the region.
"It (PDA) could give Panay, which includes Aklan and Boracay Island, investment and tourism opportunities, more jobs and economic activities,” he stressed.
The proposal to revive the Panay Development Authority was presented to Presidential Chief of Staff Michael Defensor during the Regional Development Council (RDC) executive meeting chaired by Antique Gov. Salvacion Zaldivar-Perez in Iloilo City last August 3.
"The late President Ferdinand Marcos, if my memory serves me right, had the law archived, as this shall make the Lopezes in Iloilo province stronger. Moreover, Panay Island then opposed Marcos, with Gerry Roxas in Capiz, the Zaldivars in Antique and Lopez and Ganzon in Iloilo," the vice governor claimed.
PDA was created by virtue of Republic Act No. 3856 in 1964, but this was never implemented.
Tolentino also said that the super regions development strategy of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo would sustain the economic growth of Central Philippines with “superstar” Boracay Island and Panay Island, composed of Aklan, Capiz, Antique and Iloilo, as the tourism hubs of the country.
Tourism Secretary Joseph Ace Durano also endorsed the revival of PDA.
