Tourism water supply infra for Aklan towns

Two municipalities in Aklan are recipients of United States Agency for International Development (USAID)-backed water supply projects of the national government.

The towns of Balete and Libacao in Aklan have been named among 30 municipalities across the country to receive government projects as part of Tourism Water Supply Infrastructure Program (TWSIP). The water supply projects will be implemented by Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH). 

Balete, a fourth class municipality has 10 barangays while Libacao is a third class municipality comprising of 24 barangays. The DPWH said the municipalities need to develop  sustainable and safe water supply for their communities to become potential tourist destinations.


Five other recipients in Western Visayas that will be covered by the potable water supply projects are President Roxas and Jamindan in Capiz province, San Carlos City and Murcia in Negros Occidental and the component Passi City in Iloilo province.

The P1.7 billion TWSIP water project for 30 municipalities and cities is a joint undertaking of the National Anti-Poverty Commission, Local Water Utilities Administration, Department of Tourism and DPWH.

The detailed engineering design and water source development for the projects will begin following the release of funds by the Department of Budget and Management to support the TWSIP in the countryside.

Other beneficiaries of the water projects in Visayas and Mindanao are Jetafe, Talibon and Trinidad in Bohol;  Barangay Carmen, Cagayan de Oro; Dapitan City in Zamboanga del Norte; Zamboanga City in Zamboanga del Sur; Aloguinsan, Toledo City and San Fernando, Sibonga in Cebu; Nabunturan and Montevista in Compostela Valley; Asuncion, Braulio E Dujali, Carmen New Corella in Davao del Norte.

The recipients in Luzon are Aroroy in Masbate, Currimao and San Nicolas in Ilocos Norte; Roxas and El Nido in Palawan and Baguio City in Benguet.
