Police seize illegal firearms, bullets in Libacao raid

LIBACAO, Aklan – Police operatives swooped down on a house with assorted firearms and ammunitions in Barangay Poblacion, this town, on Friday morning.

Armed with a search warrant issued by Executive Judge Honorable Marietta J. Homena-Valencia of the Regional Trial Court, the raiding team from the Aklan Police Provincial Office (APPO)-Police Intelligence Branch Office (PIBO), Criminal Investigation and Detection Team (CIDT) and the Libacao policemen seized from Alberto Castro, Sr. and his two sons at least 11 firearms in their residence located in Pagharion Street.

The assorted firearms were caliber 30 M1 Carbine rifle, 9mm Ingram machine pistol with silencer, caliber 45 Colt pistol, calibre 45 Colt Mark IV pistol, two homemade caliber 5.56 pistol, Taurus 9mm pistol and homemade calibre 38 special revolver.



The raid also resulted in the confiscation of magnum revolver Smith & Wesson caliber 22, homemade 12 gauge shotgun (single shot) and caliber 22 homemade (single shot) pistol.

Aside from weapons, police authorities led by PIBO chief Inspector Christian Burgos and CIDT chief SPO3 Ronald Singson recovered thirteen assorted magazines for caliber 45 pistol, 9MM Ingram machine pistol, carbine rifle caliber 30 M1 and 9MM pistol and a stash of 318 assorted live ammunitions.

The elder Castro and his sons - Marlou and Pepito are undergoing investigation for possession of unlicensed firearms under Presidential Decree 1866 as amended by Republic Act 8294 during a search of their house.

PO2 Nida Gregas, APPO information officer, said the Philippine National Police’s Firearms and Explosives Division (PNP-FED) has checked the records that the brothers have no license to possess and carry firearms while their father is a license gun holder for one firearm only.
