KALIBO, Aklan - It is a local holiday on November 8 as Aklanons observe the 99th birthday of the late Congressman Godofredo 'Goding' Peralta Ramos, who is also recognized as the Father of Aklan.
Palace has declared November 8 of every year as local holiday in the whole province of Aklan, including Boracay Island, by virtue of Proclamation No. 194 signed during the administration of President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo to commemorate the birth anniversary of Aklan's illustrious son.

Ramos authored House Bill No. 334 which was approved by Congress on May 9, 1955 and the Senate on April 16, 1956. It was on April 25, 1956 through Republic Act No. 1414 signed by President Ramon Magsaysay that the then province of Capiz was subdivided into two independent provinces - Capiz and the province of Aklan.
As a tribute to one of the outstanding public servants in the whole country, the provincial government led by Aklan Governor Carlito Marquez and the Aklan Historical and Cultural Society, will offer a holy Mass at Saint John the Baptist Cathedral, wreath-laying ceremony in Tay Goding’s bust at Provincial Capitol grounds and launching program of the centennial birth anniversary at the Museo it Akean.
His daughter, Aklan Tourism Council chairman Vicky Ramos-Antonino, will also lead her family and friends in the observance of the commemorative activities on Monday.
Ramos was the first Congressman of Aklan after the separation from the province of Capiz and was also elected Governor of Aklan in 1960.
A domestic airport in Barangay Caticlan at his hometown of Malay was named Godofredo P. Ramos Airport, the gateway to premier beach destination of Boracay, in memory of his dedicated public service.

as far back when he was at the helm of our province, he did envisioned that we should have our very own hydro power plant! that far huh? well, we are in the 21st century "olredi" and nowhere is that "vision" of his realised! i think he was just slightly far far ahead of his time!
